The Bugatti Veyron is considered a horsepower and acceleration benchmark in the supercar world. It certainly is an impressive piece of engineering but compared to the newest crop of hybrid supercars it is outdated and inefficient. Especially when compared to the McLaren P1.

Why? The P1 is not only more efficient it is far more nimble. Whereas the Veyron is fairly one dimensional the P1 does just about everything better than the Veyron short of hitting a higher top speed.

The P1 weighs roughly 1250 pounds less than the Veyron. Part of that is due to not having a heavy all wheel drive system and instead routing power to the rear wheels. Another reason is the P1 does not have the heavy quad turbocharged 8.0 liter sixteen cylinder motor.

The P1 instead gets by with a 737 horsepower 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 which is supplemented by a 176 horsepower electric motor. Considering the electric motor and batteries it is incredible the P1 weighs so much less than a Veyron.

Now this Veyron appears not to be one of the later 1200 horsepower versions but instead the initial 987 horsepower and 922 lb-ft of torque version. More power than the 903 horsepower P1 and more torque than the P1's 722 lb-ft as well.

The thing is the P1 is just so much more efficient and a roll on race favors it. From a stop, the Veyron would likely build an early lead. From a roll the lighter P1 pulls easily thanks to the superior power to weight, rear wheel drive, and instant torque from the electric motor.

The end result is the Veyron trailing by 4.6 miles per hour of trap speed. The Veyron is bested in the one thing it used to do better than all other production cars. It certainly would be fun to see how large of a beatdown the Veyron would receive around a roadcourse from the P1.
