DTM 2012 - What DTM Stadium racing looks like - Video of DTM M3 versus DTM M3

DTM has a very a interesting concept going with the stadium racing toward the mid-point to break up the season and change things up for fans. Basically what DTM does is put two parallel tracks in a stadium and has a knock out competition where the faster driver advances and the slower one is knocked out until only one is left standing. This year Audi's Mattias Ekstrom took the individual victory but a team relay competition was also added.

BMW drivers Bruno Spengler and Augusto Farfas did well in the team relay beating the Audi team they were against until miscommunication on the driver exchange ruined their chances. Mercedes ended up taking the team relay victory and their two teams finished in 1st and 3rd. They could have finished in 1st and 2nd had regulations not permitted the same manufacturer to have two teams in the relay final.

In order to race in the team relay the top 4 fastest drivers are chosen. Each teams drivers must compete against one another to determine who will participate. The top four advance making two teams of two. The video below shows BMW drivers Bruno Spengler and Dick Werner going head to head for a chance to compete in the relay.

DTM has something very interesting on their hands with the stadium competition and we are hoping a similar event makes it to the USA when DTM comes over. Check out the video below.

Actually pretty sweet. I wonder how drastic the setup change is for the stadium.

I have no doubt the Germans have a bar in the stadium. If they do this here I would expect the same.

I disagree. You get to see them at all times and it is a cool change of pace. You also see the driver skill as it is a direct comparison basically the whole time.

    It's different, I like it.

The only change they need is to make is to not run the tracks symmetrically. They are crossing over and doing both sides anyway. Mix up one side so there is some different ish in there.
Never thought I would see the day...

The Race of Champions events are much better - cars there are
better suited for this kind of thing.

This is a bad copy with the wrong cars.

Agreed. I like ROC more. I also like ROC because guys whom people rarely hear about them come and beat big players. Like 2009 when that A1 driver, Albuquerque came and beat Schumacher, Vettel and Loeb.
