    S54 E36 M3 vs 2011 Coyote Bolt ons 1/4 mile VIDEO

    Hey everyone,

Not an ideal pass for my car but this video has a lot to talk about for us.

    Some interesting facts..
The 3.91 is hurting me here, not enough time spent in the power band esp. at low speeds
My rear 235's are on the wear bar or lower and I can provide a picture of that
It's summertime is Southeastern United States, HOT and humid
My airbox snout is not ducted and is designed to be used without a headlight - so wrong snout and my tuner thinks it could make more power as it sits with the factory intake!

    Description in video !

Unfortunately if it was important to me to document it officially I would've kept the slips when I moved but I may have the spring time slips where it ran in the 107-108 area in my photobucket.
The car should go back out pretty soon, major cosmetic restoration going on and a big picture thread (suede headliner, a pillars, carpet, leather restorer just finished today, new seats, new trim pieces and door sills, new ducting all around, adjustable lip, interior lighting, underbody panel, window tint, tires and possibly wheels) and i'm going to start running it again after it's well sorted. It also has some random electrical issues with the lights..
I have owned the car since I was 17 years old and it was primarily a track car, but it's done 150,000 miles and 70,000 of those miles have been road course focused. Safety equipment, roll bar, R comps, race pads, track fee's and not what makes it a clean M3. Mechanically though it's quite the beast, other than the sloppy rear end.
New times will comes, subscribe to my channel I post random updates

Why didn't you run drag rubber?

Not sure why I forgot you had an S54 swapped into an E36. You made a thread on it right?

Thanks for sharing! The 3.91s with your mods and condition of tires can be rather tricky to launch.

Did you end up selling the DTA Stand Alone? If so, are you now running the Epic AlphaN?

I am just strapped for cash. I had an engine built originally that failed it's leak down test shortly after I got it back into town. Now it's back 100%

I am not sure I want to put it on drag radials until the subframe is reinforced. Even on competition autocross tires I have broken 3 diff flange bolts that help align the driveshaft. It's even making noise back there now, I drift the car alllottt Click here to enlarge (can't help it)

Flip - I am now factory ECU, drive by wire and Epic Tuned. However there are few things holding my car back, like no ducting too and the wrong snout on the airbox. Also, a none merging mid pipe is holding me back 5-10rwhp.

    Nice!

Yeah proper ducting or at least getting a decent stream of air makes a big difference.

If you don't mind me asking, has Randy done any dyno tuning yet? Or have you have strapped the beast on a dyno?

I bet AlphaN plus Drive By Wire feels AMAZING!!

This is a very good point.

Yes Randy tuned it on his dyno, but like I was saying even a factory mid pipe merges and it choked it pretty hard paired with my ducting and airbox snout. We stopped at 300 and it's going to go back soon when it's sorted and it needs a fair amount of stuff. Also it was 95+ degree's, very humid Miami day when it was tuned.

The drive by wire and alpha-n is laughable. It's so precise and awesome, i just burn through gas driving the car so much.

    Sticky,

Epic Motorsports did everything, including finding a solid 32k mile motor and putting in iodized forged rod bearings. It has been mechanically flawless and I can get 30mpg going 70-75 mph.. Randy is a pleasure to work with.

Any particular reason you opted for the S54 rather than tweaking the motor you already had?

Because they are unreliable for what I do with my car. Constant head gasket issues, even in N/A form they can spring a leak in between cylinders at temperature. It's literally like a factory defect, some blocks just aren't perfectly flat and when pushed hard they can break, esp with FI. I can think of so many cars with this issue, mine not one of them however...
When I pulled out my cammed S52 at 139k, it was time to upgrade.. how I saw it. I was happy with it, but its characteristics were the only thing holding back the car from being a "real" M car IMO

If I swapped out my radiator my car could literally do the 13hr at VIR. Randy won the 13hr last year in an E46 M3 with the factory ECU, beefed up cooling and forged rod bearings.

    I see.

It isn't a cheap swap but if you wanted the S54 why didn't you go with a an E46 M3? Or did you want the motor in a lower weight car for tracking?

@onurleft did you use stock E36 motor mounts or something custom? If it's stock then can it be done on non-M E36's as well or it needs some sort of adapters?

    Thanks.

I wanted something unique, basically. Also the weight thing was a motivator, but it's not that much lighter (150-200lbs) with everything. Once prepared for racing the only real advantage an E46 has is aero, all thins considered. So I didn't really see a point in stepping up just to spend more money on brakes and tires

    I wish I did a 4 door E36, big mistake.

EDIT: The real reason why I did it was if I hit the wall, or get hit hard on a road course, I can find a new rolling chassis for $3500, less for a none M. All the performance, none of the future financial pains.

On top of that, I'm sure there may be a tad less drivetrain loss depending what you use Click here to enlarge

I would LOVE to put an S54B32 in an E36 using factory DME!...then an S85B50 in the E46 with factory DME!

I like your style. I have been saying my next project is a 323i or 323iT with an S65. S85 would be killer, I think if I was going all out i'd have to go ahead and drop that in a E30 or even cooler IMO, E28 gutted.

E28 + S85B50 = BRILLIANT! Even my crazy mind never even though of that, haha.

I would totally pick up a wrecked E28, restore it to M5 spec, spray it Alpine White, then throw in the motor.... Click here to enlarge

    I'm digging that.

Would love to throw an S85 in a Z8 too.

Or throw an S62 in an E9.

Or... I can go on for a while.
