Volkswagen to offload assets to raise money - Ducati, Scania, and MAN on the chopping block
Volkswagen has a deadline to finalize a settlement with the United States government next week. What that number may be who knows but Volkswagen is prepared to begin selling brands to raise money. On the chopping block are Ducati, Scania, and MAN.
Volkswagen bought Ducati for Audi in 2012 for just over a billion dollars so it would have a toy to play with. The idea was to provide a rival for BMW Motorrad and AMG invested heavily in MV Agusta. Ducati is likely the first go.
This all depends on what the settlement figure is of course. Volkswagen could still retain the Swedish heavy truck manufacturer Scania. The German company MAN also produces heavy trucks.
Volkswagen also plans to reorganize their brand components and merge as much together as possible to lower costs. This could mean VW quality dips as it gets cheap and starts trimming fat to the maximum.
We'll see what happens.
