Tesla Model X P90D Ludicrous vs. Ferrari 458 drag race

We already know how this goes. Almost two years ago now we saw a Ferrari 458 and a Tesla Model S P85D go at it. The Tesla opens up a lead only for the Ferrari to go flying by at higher speeds. This is the new Model X P90D SUV model though which is more powerful but also heavier than the Model S.

It goes as expected with the Model X getting the lead and then the Ferrari 458 running it down. It is just that the Ferrari is not able to do it in a 1/4 mile. It loses the race.

The 458 runs 11.463 @ 120.91 to the Model X P90D 11.580 @ 115.70. Keep in mind density altitude doesn't matter for the Tesla and based on the Ferrari's time it sure seemed to be a bit warm out in Florida.

Either way, yes, the Model X P90D sure is a stoplight terror.

Yeah if anything the higher density altitude will help the Model X for one drag run because of less drag. It also would mean the inverters/motors/batteries would heat soak quicker but doesn't matter for one run.
The 488 would kill a model X though I am sure.

The fact that we are even talking about essentially an all electric van versus a 458 is testament enough to how quick the model x is.

the Model X is a stoplight to stoplight beast. I was on an Episode of Top Gear when they put it up against the Hellcat. Tesla is definitely putting in work with these electric offerings.

The Ferrari owner is a friend of mine who bought it while waiting for his 1200 whp GTR to be done. He wasn't familiar with the launch control, and probably could have done just a touch better with a little practice.

I have a Model X and it is a phenomenal car. It makes my tuned ML63 feel clunky it comparison.

Much better than the ML63, and the ML63 is lowered.

The ML63's sound deadening and ride quality is better than the Model X, especially since I put a slightly-taller-sidewall tire on the ML63's 21s. For a $150k car, I would have hoped the road noise would be better than it is in the Tesla.

Yeah. It's an issue with Chrome.

I asked Vbulletin to fix it and they said they wouldn't so I said their support is garbage and they gave me a warning and closed the thread. Awesome support from a company raking in $100 million eh? They say they don't have the 'resources' to do it.

The only option is to wait for Google to fix it (they haven't) or have it fixed myself which would take months of paying a programmer. I'm not about to pay a guy to do what Vbulletin is supposed to do.

For now, just click 'A' in the upper left hand corner to change your editor or avoid quoting.

    Why?

The X is built on the S platform, so it's more of a crossover than an SUV. A good portion of the weight of the X sits in the very bottom of the car because of the batteries.

When I saw the vid of the Model S at VIR it was an understeering pig and I think it overheated too.

Well, perhaps we are evaluating handling a bit differently. I didn't buy the Model X or the ML63 to take on a road course. When I say the X handles "much better," I'm referring to its driving manners in more commonplace situations. The ML63 doesn't suck, but the X is "better." If you're ever in the Tampa Bay area, you're welcome to drive them back to back. Click here to enlarge
