F1 2017 - Ferrari is looking strong after 1-2 finish in Monaco

Monaco does not provide for the most spectacular racing on the Formula 1 schedule but the event due to the locale and people attending is a very big deal. Speaking of big deals, Ferrari is leading the constructor's championship and Sebastian Vettel is in first place in the driver standings.

Mercedes is the juggernaut and defending champ but Ferrari is providing quite a challenge this season. The team was not able to find the podium as Bottas finished in fourth and Lewis Hamilton finished in seventh.

Issues with tires and a poor qualifying session made it tough on Hamilton who simply could not make enough ground after starting thirteenth. To his credit he made it up to sixth place at one point on the tight circuit.

It was Ferrari's day though with a 1-2 finish:

The Canadian Grand Prix on June 11th is up next. Race highlights and standings below.

150mph average speed would be nuts at Monaco. I think your chart might be wrong - should be kph? Or that might be max mph?

Ok, it's not max speed. Through the traps they were over 300kph.

I still have a hard time believing that average mph given the tight confines of the track, but 162mi in 104min..... must be right.

Yeah, it should be km/h not MPH, the lap record this year for Monaco was by Sergio Perez (Force India) - ran the ~3.337 km track in ~77s - which is 160 kilometers per hour:

Google even has it wrong - not sure why. If you google "f1 average speed Monaco" - you get a similar chart as above.

F1 cars are quick as hell - it's unreal to see in real life. I am going to Austin this year, and cannot wait for the race. Ferrari is doing well this year; my guess is their shorter wheelbase is helping with the tire temperatures - and we will see some more Ferrari domination before the season is over... Especially on the tight tracks.

    Cheers.

It is Google's chart so that explains that.

I clicked on feedback and told them it should be KM/H instead of MPH as shown... We'll see if they change it. Click here to enlarge

I think all they need to do is flip MPH to KPH and it would be fine. The numbers are right if it's KPH.

Now, how Sergio Perez running in a Force India car got the fastest lap at Monaco is a whole 'nother question. I am pretty surprised he achieved that.

Glad I wasn't crazy thinking that. The whole thing is in miles, not kilometers. 162km total sounds right given the # of laps.
