2020 Porsche Taycan S expected to produce 700+ horsepower and 750+ lb-ft of torque

Electrics will proliferate the high performance market in the next decade. The internal combustion engine is not done just yet but the end is in sight. Even Porsche acknowledges this with the very powerful, very expensive, and very heavy Taycan.

With over 700 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque the Taycan should be a rocket. And it is for a 5000 pound car. You simply can not get around the weight penalty.

Take a look at the specs as provided by Autocar:

Where Stuttgart, Germany Price £135,000 (est) On sale late 2019 Engine front and rear electric motors Battery over 90kWh Power over 700bhp (on overboost) Torque over 750lb ft Gearbox 2-spd, direct drive Kerb weight 2250kg (est) Top speed over 155mph 0-62mph less than three seconds Range 310 miles (Mission E, claimed)
Now, those are not finalized but the numbers all look nice. Of course, except for the weight.

The production model is not quite ready but we have a general idea of what the Taycan can do and what it will cost.

Will it crush its competition which is mainly from Tesla? It is going to be fun to find out.

Yawn...I might get the Rivian if I have to for 1/2 the price, haul 6 people, good for 400 miles, 14,000 Nm torque that could tow a breakdown Land Rover, 0-60 in 3 sec.

Update to my post on 9-1-19:

Thankfully my concerns were all camo based. The Taycan looks super nice! Sticky is obviously busy with something so he hasn't updated with new articles one being the production version of the Taycan Turbo S.
