Dream drag race - Stock Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren MP4-12C battle it out on the strip

This is not your everyday 1/4 mile run. Two of the world's best exotics meeting on the dragstrip to see who is the fastest. Both cars are expensive, that part is understood. Both cars also have different philosophies when it comes to their powertrains as the Aventador uses a 700 horsepower naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 revving to 8500 rpm and sending all power to all four wheels whereas the McLaren MP4-12C has a smaller 3.8 liter V8 but with twin turbochargers pushing output to 616 horsepower.

The McLaren is a rear wheel drive car with a dual clutch transmission (the Aventador uses an ISR Lamborghini claims shifts faster than a dual clutch) and is lighter than the 3795 pound Aventador by about 586 pounds.

So how does this go down? Well the McLaren gets a huge jump off the line as the Aventador is caught sleeping. The MP4-12C runs an incredible 10.42 @ 135.69 to the Aventador's 11.26 @ 129.53.

The Aventador did not do its best but fortunately a second run takes place. Again the MP4-12C beats the all wheel drive Italian off the line and again loses the drag race. The times are similar showing consistency with the MP4-12C running 10.50 @ 133.95 to the Avenatador's 11.144 @ 129.73.

The Aventador should run faster times than this and it looks like the driver is struggling to launch it. Those revs need to get up and he needs to not be afraid of abusing the drivetrain. It would be fun to see these two from a roll but the MP4-12C shows it uses its power more efficiently than the Aventador.

I saw these two cars have a 1km drag race on a runway. Unfortunately the timing equipment was broken but the 12c won a fairly close race.

I know there is a video of it on youtube but I can't seem to find it.
