EVO standing kilometer drag race between the 2014 Nissan GTR and Porsche 991 Turbo Cabriolet with launch control

An interesting drag race here between two cars we all know very well. The Nissan GTR and Porsche 911 Turbo are constantly compared to one another. Nissan fired the first volleys when they made sure the world knew they were testing the GTR's performance against the 911 Turbo. The GTR during development was constantly spotted with a 997.1 Turbo trailing the test team. Since both have twin turbo six cylinders, dual clutch transmissions, and all wheel drive, these comparisons are only natural.

The 2014 GTR is no slouch performance wise especially in a straight line. It is capable of 11.0 second flat 1/4 mile runs with trap speeds in the 124-125 mile per hour range. The 911 Turbo is a bit of a conundrum as performance testing has shown inconsistent figures. EVO chose the 991 Turbo cabriolet for whatever reason which is the heaviest and slowest 911 Turbo model.

The 991 Turbo has 520 horsepower from its 3.8 liter direct injected flat-6 motor which is 25 less than the 2014 GTR. At roughly 3600 pounds the 911 Turbo is about 250 pounds lighter than the GTR but heavier than the coupe. Speaking of the 991 Turbo coupe, independent testing on the 1/4 mile drag strip showed a 10.9 @ 126 1/4 mile pass.

On paper, this drag race should be close. As the video shows however, it isn't that close. The 991 Turbo Cabriolet spanks the GTR. How do we explain this? We can't. The 991 Turbo Cabriolet is quicker to 60, quicker to 100, and 6 miles per hour faster through the standing kilometer. Sometimes the Porsche 991 Turbo performs like a beast, sometimes it doesn't. This time it certainly did.

Are both engines hand built? Could it be possible they got a "dud" gtr and that one in a million 991? I really doubt it, but I cant think of a logical explanation as to why the gtr would get beat like that.

edit* after watching it again it seems like the gtr couldn't quite put the power down maybe traction was the main issue?

Even if traction was an issue off the line how do you explain the trap speed or it getting pulled up top like that?

GTR could be a "dud", but as far as I know every engine gets dyno-tested before it gets put in the car so I don't know how they'd let one slip through. Saw this video a few days ago, was also very surprised by how far ahead the 911 finished.

The 911 should trap a little higher in coupe form but with a cab I'm surprised. The convertible is a soft top so it doesn't add a whole ton of weight but this wasn't even the Turbo S.

This is why 1/4 mile traps don't tell the whole story. The gtrs were always slugs from a roll compared to their performance out of the hole so in a standing kilometer i would expect the 911 to nudge it out. They are geared very favorably for low end so what surprised me was the 911 pulling on it so soon into the run though
