Jaguar testing their upcoming C-X17 SUV on the Nurburgring - 550 horsepower supercharged V8 high performance SUV on the way?
Jaguar wants to aggressively expand their sales volume. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and the upcoming entry-level XE sedan will fill a major void in the Jaguar lineup. Another glaring hole in the lineup though is the lack of a sport utility vehicle.
However you might feel about SUV's they generate a lot of sales and volume for luxury manufacturers. If Jaguar intends to compete with the likes of BMW or Porsche they need an SUV in the lineup. Well, the C-X17 is that SUV and here it is testing on the Nurburgring.
The vehicle is expected to launch in 2016. It will not require as much development as a complete ground up design as Jaguar will modify the Range Rover Sport aluminum platform. That also begs the question if Jaguar will be cannibalizing sales from sibling Range Rover.
Jaguar will likely have a sportier emphasis than Range Rover. That means a lighter, smaller, and lower vehicle. It also means more power as a high performance version is planned.
We will have to wait and see if it gets the supercharged V8 but considering the Range Rover models do it only makes sense.
