CTS-V coupe goes to warp speed against an ESS-Tuning VT2-650 supercharged BMW E60 M5

The E60 M5 camera car in the video belongs to BimmerBoost member @tjav8b. His car is no slouch in stock form thanks to the S85 5.0 liter V10 under the hood but his is not stock. It is boosted courtesy of a Vortech based supercharger kit meaning it is quite potent especially on the top end.

He decided to take his car to a 1/2 mile race event in Florida where there was a variety of competition. Competition that included this CTS-V that suddenly just pulls away like the M5 is standing still.

We do not know the modifications on the CTS-V. All we know is it is impressive to say the least. The CTS-V trapped over 170 on this run and the M5 managed 159 miles per hour.

Thank you @tjav8b for sharing the video and not caring about a win or loss.

The problem is they can really vary based on the event.

That was an unnatural gain in acceleration, I would vote either NOS or a serious boost by gear gain.

Either way it was jaw dropping!

For reference simple bolton 997.1 turbos with a compressor wheel upgrade E85 and a Cobb protune run 170+mph in the 1/2 mile with ~700whp. Stock motor, transmission. That ctsv is probably 700+ for that trap if this was not at very high elevation.

The 1,000+ pound savings and aerodynamics sure don't hurt. Looks like V's need to be in the 800 ballpark to cross the 170mph mark.

My car ran 173 with more than 700 whp. A heavier CTS-V is going to need a lot more power than that.

I can't stop watching it lol. I mean to pull on an already fast ass forced inducted e60 M5 that's already in it's powerband is crazy! It just disappears, had to add at least 200-300hp from whatever power adder it used.

Thats probably about right. I haven't been able to find the specs on this car, but the recipe for the platform is bolt-ons (stock blower), big cam and 200-250 shot of nitrous. That has put plenty of people over 150mph in the quarter. I put a post up on the V forum to see if someone can identify the car.

Color me wrong... turns out its a twin turbo, LSX car. Member name is PDQ-V on the list I posted above, but I couldn't find a build thread with more details on the car. Looks like he put down 1,100whp on a mustang dyno with a best of 176mph.

Yeah that kind of power certainly is a bit more than 7XXX.

    Hell of a car.

159 is very respectable. Trap speeds at these 1/2 mile events do vary considerably from location to location and due to conditions. Ive run 161 in VA and 164 in GA, but both of those locations had very high DA's due to elevation. I had to run +4 - 5psi above what I run at sea level to get my AFR's back in target range. Also, some of the runways are very very dusty/dirty and traction can be terrible. Hell, the segmented concrete surface in the left lane at Heaven's Landing GA was so uneven and bumpy that it was unsettling the car like crazy and was pretty dangerous. Narrow runway too. These events can be a little sketchy.

Thanks for finding the info to the cts-v. I was definitely playing with the big dogs and took a spanking for sure. It's about time for me to start a low compression/ high boost build.

V2 CTS-V stock blower, stock bottom end, no nitrous record has been shattered: 9.2 @ 147mph

    http://www.ctsvowners.com/forum/27-t...y-v-coupe.html

There was some controversy, primarily from those who lost their bragging rights by a long shot, but it appears the time is legit. Basic weight reduction (wheels + small brakes, front seats to buckets, portion of exhaust for a total of ~300lbs), air from the bottom of a mine shaft (-1,800 DA) and an excellent tune / setup appear to be the recipe.
