Car Insurance in Italy
Well, just got a rude awakening this morning. I was on the phone with my insurance company, getting my quote for car insurance for when I move to Italy. Because of my job, I'm moving to Italy in March. I'm shipping a 2015 Nissan Murano Platinum and my 2011 335is. I have an accident on my record in 2013 and my wife has a clean driving record. Currently I pay around $183/mo for both cars, with $100 deductibles on everything. Well, it is Italian law that everyone carries $5 million Euro bodily injury and $1 million Euro personal property coverage. That is $#@!ing ridiculous. These coverages result in a 316% percent increase in insurance premiums. FML!!!!!! Those coverages are $#@!ing ridiculous. Like everyone in Italy drives a $#@!ing Ferrari Enzo or Bugatti Veyron or something? So my monthly payment goes from $183/mo to $580/mo. $#@! Italy.....
Between that and $6.19/gal for gas, no wonder everyone there drives a Fiat Panda or some other econobox.....
What do some of you other international people pay for car insurance?2016 340xi AT

40? That seems cheap. What does a gallon of milk cost there or a gallon of gas? Or liters, whatever you use

A liter of milk is about a dollar fifty. So a gallon of milk would be about 4-6 bucks again also depending on where you shop, local farmer or store milk for some reason is pricy but it's fresh and not processed. One gallon of gas is exactly $4.40 cents for regular. Diesel runs about 5 bucks and up depending on if you get euro diesel with additives or just the $#@!ty kind.

bigdnno98, were you successful at finding an affordable car insurance policy? I live in Italy and must agree that the car insurance here is expensive compared to American standards. I use Genialloyd.it for three cars but just started looking for another insurance company. So, if you find a better car insurance for American drivers please inform me on this thread. Thank you in advance. ComoLake

Not bad. Not as expensive as I thought, except for the car insurance of course. The town I live in is over 2k years old. It's pretty cool, the food is good, people are pretty cool. Learning Italian is a must though.
